Rachael Ewing is a Mum of two wee ones, Silas (2yr) and Mirabai (3yrs). Her children and the family farm keep her quite busy as a full time Mother and gardener. Her partner Niko works on the farm when they are in NZ. Stateside, he works in marine construction, diving and captaining sailboats. Their little family spends half their time in Takahue, New Zealand and the other half on Martha's Vineyard island in the USA. In New Zealand they live on their family farm. In the States they also live close to family. Niko and Rachael love this lifestyle especially with two small children. It gives them variety and adventure in their life with the wonderful aspects of home and stability built in. Rachael has her certificate in Steiner Education form Taruna in Havelock North, NZ and has worked as a preschool teacher here in NZ and also in the States. She enjoys being on the farm with the children, working in the gardens, orchards and with the animals.
In the States Rachael and her friend Laura Jordan-Decker started a music program called Little Bird Music. They offer music classes that involve seasonal songs and movement for the whole family. Children are encouraged to express themselves in whatever shape or form that feels comfortable and natural with the aid of song and story.
Rachael has also helped establish a cooperative homeschool group on the Island of Martha's Vineyard with her two colleagues and friends, Ariana Binney and Kaila Allen-posin. The cooperative is a participatory nature based education model that inspires curiosity, promotes imagination and builds resilient community members on a foundation of whole systems thinking. It seeks to integrate the philosophies of placed based, Waldorf, Forest and permaculture education. The group is called The Woods School and is alive and thriving now with full enrollment and participation from parents.
Kerrie Curtin is a practicing rural midwife in the Far North of New Zealand. She moved from the States seven years ago where she raised her three children with her husband Tom. Kerrie holds a Masters degree in Nursing and Midwifery. She practiced as a pediatric and public health nurse as a young mother. She then furthered her career and worked as a nurse practitioner and midwife for 25 years. Along the way, she has studied homeopathy, cranial sacral therapy, and healthy nutrition. Caring for women and their families throughout the journey of pregnancy and parenting inspired Kerrie to begin her quest to understand consciousness and its importance in these stages of life.
Through their individual explorations, Kerrie and Rachael realized that many of the conventional resources offer you help and guidance around un-doing the teachings of childhood in order to create health later on in life. Through their research they would like to help create a new path of conscious parenting from the beginning. They would like to offer you a compilation of all their gathered knowledge in order to streamline information in a time when it can be very confusing to try to answer the simple questions.
